Posted on September 2, 2019

When starting to learn to play the piano or any other musical instrument, it is never easy to know what songs you should start learning. There are thousands of thousands (not to say millions) of songs out there and it is easy to get carried over by the songs you’d like to play but are way too advanced for your current level or choose unknown songs that are not that exciting to learn.

To make your musical journey smoother and easier (and in addition to inventing easy-to-read sheet music), we’ve complied a short list of easy piano songs we think every beginner should start with or at least every intermediate musician should know. The musical pieces that we selected are great for those who start learning to play the keyboard and piano because they are easy and fun, as well as quite popular. This means that there’s a high likelihood that you already know some of the songs of the list. It is always easier to learn something that you know, isn’t it? At the same time, it is also likely that your friends or family know the songs. So when you will be playing for them, they will surely be more impressed if they can recognise the melody or piano song you play.

On top, we compiled this list so that you can make quick progress and improve your musical skills while still having fun. For that we included for each songs the videos and its sheet music. So with this list, you will be able to train your ears, your finger techniques and sigh-reading, as well as make quick progress, so as to master your keyboard (or any other musical instrument) in no time.

So with no further due, here’s our top-7 list of easy songs every pianist and keyboardist should learn.

1 - Greensleeves

To start off the list, we've got folk song Greensleeves. Its melody is pretty easy but not very repetitive, which is great to train your sight-reading and fingering at the same time.

2 - The Blue Danube

This simplified piano version of the Blue Danube by Johann Strauss is a good introduction to Waltz. Learn this piece and begin to master this particular genre.

3 - Auld Lang Syne

Another popular folk song with an Irish tone and a lively melody. It’s a challenging song to work on and improve your left hand's play.

4 - Lullaby

Are you looking for a song to play for your little brother, sisters or children from your school? Look no further Lullaby by Johannes Brahms is the song you are looking for.

5 - Oh Shenandoah

On the fifth position it's "Oh Shenandoah", another folk song quite popular in the United States. As we are progressing in the list, the piano songs are getting more difficult.

6 - Slient Night / Stille Nacht

On the penultimate spot we've got Silent Night or Stille Nacht in German. It's one of the most popular Christmas carol and it's the perfect song to impress your family and friends during the holidays season. A must-know song for every intermediate pianist and keyboardist.

7 - Ave Maria

The last but not the least. One of the most beautiful musical pieces of the century. This simplified version of Ave Maria by Franz Schubert will surely move your family and friends. It’s a great song to play at a wedding or any at public gathering. It is also the most difficult piece of the list. That’s why we put it it in last position.

Bonus - Happy Birthday To You

And here's a bonus song: Happy Birthday To You. Known by almost everyone around the world, there's a lot of chance that if you learn to play this song, you'll have plenty of occasions to play it in front of an audience - simply imagine the number of birthday parties you'll go to in your lifetime.
